Our project

The Motivation:

Health and Sustainability - This project is deeply rooted in Public Health. As air pollution intensifies, inhaling harmful gases or fine particulate matter can lead to severe illnesses and life-threatening conditions. United Nations Sustainable Development Goal (SDG) 3 specifically highlights the need to reduce deaths and illnesses from hazardous chemicals and air pollution. Driven by this goal, I designed an automated system that monitors air quality and actively prevents the inhalation of harmful substances to protect our well-being.

The Solution:

Dual-Action Protection System The device features two intelligent core functions to ensure a safe breathing environment:Indoor Hazardous Gas Response: Sensors are installed indoors to detect dangerous gases such as Carbon Monoxide (CO) or smoke. Upon detecting a threat, the system immediately triggers a response: a servo motor opens the windows while an exhaust fan activates to rapidly vent the harmful air. Simultaneously, a built-in speaker sounds an alarm to warn occupants.Outdoor PM2.5 Monitoring & Filtering: An outdoor PM2.5 sensor constantly monitors the external air quality. If PM2.5 levels rise to unhealthy heights, the system automatically closes the windows to block pollutants from entering. Once the air quality improves, the windows will automatically reopen to allow fresh air circulation.

The Vision

My goal is for this device to react instantly to pollution events. By maintaining a 24/7 watch over both indoor and outdoor environments, we can significantly reduce the risks associated with air pollution and empower everyone to live a healthier, safer life.

Our inspiration

I was inspired to build this project because air pollution is a hidden threat to our health. Following UN SDG 3, I wanted to create a smart device that doesn't just monitor the air, but actively protects us by making windows 'think' for our safety.
